The rescue has raised hopes of finding more survivors after the devastating flooding and landslides along Nepal’s border with China.
Rescuers reportedly heard voices coming from inside the tunnel and are continuing efforts to reach possible survivors. They have been digging by hand after using explosives to clear rocks described as being as large as cars.
It remains unclear how many people are still trapped inside the tunnel.
The wider disaster has caused a huge loss of life, with more than 1,290 people reported dead in Nepal, while China has reported 21 deaths in its latest update.
Across the two countries, about 5,500 people remain missing, as rescue teams continue searching affected areas.
