Nchimbi said his decision was based on a commitment he made to President Hassan before assuming office in 2025. He said he had promised to serve faithfully and step aside whenever the President felt that a change in the vice-presidential position was necessary.
His resignation marks an unexpected development in Tanzania’s political landscape and is expected to trigger attention over who will succeed him as Vice President. Nchimbi cited Articles 50(2)(c) and 149(2) of Tanzania’s Constitution as the legal basis for his resignation.
