In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that although government revenues have increased, the purchasing power of Nigerians has declined. He said the administration’s policies have triggered simultaneous increases in fuel prices, exchange rates and the cost of living, leaving millions of Nigerians poorer.

Atiku further criticised the government’s economic reforms, saying the hardship being experienced by citizens should not be presented as evidence of economic progress. His position on restoring fuel subsidy has become one of the major issues expected to feature prominently in discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
